Philosophy

The ZigZagZoo Early Learning Centres are passionate and enthusiastic about providing a respectful, responsive and peaceful educational learning programme for all infants and children.

Our environment is carefully staged as we believe that the environment is the third teacher and enhances every child’s learning. It is valued, respected, organized, inviting, engaging, well - resourced and calm.

We are inspired by the principles of Pikler and Gerber (RIE) which believe that only when emotionally satisfied can the child truly learn , and that all babies deserve to be cared for with respect . We form trusting reciprocal relationships with infants and their parents, and follow a peaceful Caregiving - as - Curriculum for babies.

We embrace the Reggio philosophy which is based upon forming respectful, responsive, reciprocal relationships which value others’ opinions, viewpoints and interpretations . We emphasize the importance of adults and children learning together. We acknowledge the curiosity of children and all ow them to question and research the reasons for all that surrounds them.

We believe that by combining the Reggio and Gerber philosophies together with Te Whāriki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, each child will grow up as a competent and confident learner and communicator, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging.
